About Blockley Tyres

The Blockley Tyre Company’s objective is to produce the highest quality tyres with authentic appearance and handling characteristics for pre-war (and early post-war) cars to use on both the road and track.

With a slim, upright design the Blockley is not only traditional in appearance but helps with airflow to the brake drums on higher performance cars, negating the need for offset rims. The good-looking three block tread pattern offers maximum contact area which has superior wet weather performance whilst maintaining a look that is not out of context on any pre-war car. Particular attention has been paid to overcome the “chunking” problems witnessed with other makes of tyres.

Blockley tyres are designed to correctly fit a range of period rim widths including the narrow 2¾" and 3" rims. The alternative for owners of higher performance cars, such as the G. P. Bugattis, has been to either dangerously over-tyre the wheels or to fit non-standard, non-period wider rims to suit the tyres available, neither compromise being ideal for the pre-war car owner.

The rubber specification is no softer than "204" which is the VSCC and FIA standard chosen. Although technically a road tyre Blockley has more than proved itself "on the pace" with other brands on the race track and has been designed to take you from the road to the track and home again.

Tyres manufactured for older cars are exempt from the legislation expected of tyres for more modern vehicles but despite this Blockley have chosen to attain:

• a 113mph (S) speed rating for the 350 x 19 and 400 x 19 tyres
• a 130mph (H) speed rating for the rest of the Blockley range
• US Department of Transportation (DoT) coding for the manufacturing processes
• European standard 'E' marking for all 15" and 16" tyres in the range

The reason for voluntarily adopting these measures is to ensure Blockley Tyres maintain the highest standards of quality and performance. As far as we are aware Blockley Tyres are the only range designed for historic vehicles on the US market which are DoT marked.

Blockley tyres must be fitted in conjunction with a good quality inner tube and rim band. Blockley’s product liability insurance is only valid when the tyres are fitted with Classico tubes and rim bands (also available from MWS International). Vehicles capable of 100mph or more should be fitted with race tubes, whether you intend to travel at these speeds or not.

Blockley are the first tyres produced for pre-war (and early post-war) cars that are not only suitable for road and competition use but are manufactured to the highest standards of the industry as demonstrated by the high speed rating. Blockley tyres have set the new benchmark, which other manufacturers may wish to follow in due course, raising the standard and increasing customer choice.
