F.I.A. Papers Granted - April 2008Report by John Davies Roberts
FIA Papers granted for my Jaguar XK150S
The great news in this article is that the MSA have granted me FIA Papers, which is the Historic Technical Passport (HTP) that allows me to enter FIA Historic races worldwide.
In addition, this is the first time a Jaguar XK150S has been given FIA Papers without having bumpers on the car.
My research took me back to 1958 when a gentleman by the name of Anthony Davenport contacted Lofty England, then General Manager of Jaguar at Browns Lane in Coventry who worked for Sir William Lyons and specifically requested a Jaguar XK150 to be prepared for racing. This meant that the car was a “Stripped Down” version of the XK150 with a tuned engine and without bumpers.
As Anthony was a cherished customer of Jaguar he was given exactly what he asked for. Thanks go to Philip Porter of the XK Club with help on this research, as he interviewed Anthony and had photographs of the car racing in 1958 at Silverstone and interview commentary reported in the XK Gazette.
I believe that this has now set the first precedent for the Jaguar XK150 to have been granted FIA HTP Papers for circuit racing usage without bumpers, which certainly helps the car to look more racey and also improves the curvy lines of the XK line and not just the XK150.
If anyone is attempting to gain FIA HTP Papers for their XK150S and they need help, please contact me on the following number 07710 971444. I will be only too pleased to assist.
