XK60 at Goodwood - 8th/9th August 2008

Event Report by John Davies Roberts

What a wonderful weekend to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Jaguar XK marque.

With static displays in conjunction with live action on the circuit! Some 50 Jaguar XK derivatives from XK120’s, 140’s, 150’s ‘C’ Types, ‘D’ Types and Lister Jaguars out there making a wonderful noise!

At 08:30 we were briefed on the fact that this was not a Race Day and that there were fellow XK owners with road-going cars only, so BE CAREFUL!!

The day started well and I took the car out while it was still dry. I had bolted in my passenger seat to take interested parties out who were not “Afraid of Flying”. Steve Gardner of MWS was my first passenger and it appeared that he rather liked the experience. Well, he wasn’t sick and he didn’t turn green after some of the fast corners.

The weather turned rather grey then downright wet but I thought we should continue to use the circuit and Tim was another MWS staff member who took to the circuit with me. Obviously, the MWS boys are made of stern stuff and I had another happy face on board as I slipped and slid around the corners.

One of my business clients Steve Andrew, the CEO of Applied IT Solutions also had a ride in the wet conditions, when I developed a misfire. With the help of Steve, who is quite handy around cars and bikes and with very useful advice from Chris Window, Chief Mechanic at Racing Green Cars, we solved the problem and were back out there firing on all six again (Thanks chaps!).

I also used the day to play with the car’s handling by softening the suspension via the adjustable shocks and found an even better level of handling in the wet and the very wet.

So all in all, it was a very enjoyable day and weekend. As I write this article the celebrations continue at Cowdray Park, where they will draw the lucky winner of an XK150 on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Charity.

In addition, all passengers contributed some cash to the Children in Need Charity, as can be seen from the driver line-up picture and holding the cheque.

I would like to say “Well Done” to Jaguar, for providing us with such a rich history of sports and saloon cars and with many Le Mans wins to their credit. Long may it continue!

The next race event will be at:

Spa-Francorchamps on the 26th, 27th and 28th September.

This will be the weekend of the Spa 6 Hours Endurance Race.

We would love to see you there and at our marquee with our new 2008 MWS banner and the latest MWS product brochures displaying:

Motor Wheels Service International &
The new Vintage & Veteran product range!

All the best!

John
