The first 2 vehicles were named after the manufacturer, Leonard Witton.

The name "Tiger" appeared with the production of the Tiger Roadster in the late 70s in the USA (without permission of Mr Witton - production was therefore stopped).

In 1980, Peter Gowing imported 2 Tiger shells to the UK. One was used to manufacture Merlin TA ("Trans-Axle"), based on VW - however, only one was ever produced.
Using the second shell, the Merlin TF ("Type Ford") was manufactured, based on Ford Cortina, and was produced until 1984.

With the export of the Merlin TF to South Africa in 1985, the Lynx Roadster was born, based on Ford Cortina Mk 3/4 mechanics.

At the same time, the Merlin Plus Two (or Merlin +2, Merlin 2+2), which was launched in 1983 as "Monro" and renamed in 1985), replaced the TF in the UK. This vehicle was based on Ford Cortina and Sierra (= Merlin iRS).
About 650 were made until production stopped in 1998.

The Merlin is available in various versions, based on Ford Taurus or Ford Sierra, with Ford 4 or 6 cylinder OHC engine or Rover 2.0 16 valve OHC, 3.9 V8 or 4.6 V8 engine

Always check the history of the vehicle to ensure that there have been no modifications to the running gear.

Hubs/splines, spinners and nuts remain the same, unless noted otherwise, regardless of which wheel is fitted.

We also stock wire wheel maintenance accessories such as our Cleaning Kit (Refills available), Cleaning Brush, Degreaser and Tyre Foam.
